Indonesia marks Maulid Nabi with religious and social observances

The observance of Maulid Nabi, commemorating the birth of Prophet Muhammad, is being marked across Indonesia through various religious, social, and economic activities. In Aceh, the government is hosting a public commemoration at the Baiturrahman Grand Mosque to strengthen social bonds and religious devotion.

In Raja Ampat, the holiday is being used to promote social cohesion through community activities like walking tours. In Tanggumong, residents are transforming traditional food-sharing customs into infrastructure development by funding the construction of concrete roads through community cooperation.

Economically, the long holiday has triggered significant travel activity. PT KAI Daop 1 Jakarta reported nearly 295,000 passenger movements during the period, with high volumes at major stations like Pasar Senen and Gambir. Travel platforms like Agoda also noted high interest in domestic nature destinations such as Manado, Medan, and Malang for the long weekend.

Culturally, the period remains a time for spiritual reflection, the recitation of prayers, and the honoring of historical works like the Qasidah Burdah, composed by the 13th-century poet Imam al-Bushiri.
