Indonesia prepares for Maulid Nabi 2026 celebrations
As the observance of Maulid Nabi (the birth of Prophet Muhammad) approaches on August 25, 2026, various communities across Indonesia are preparing diverse celebrations and traditions.
In Raja Ampat, local authorities are using the occasion to promote social cohesion through community activities such as fun walks. In Tanggumong, Sampang, residents are transforming traditional food offerings into infrastructure development, with a donor initiative funding the construction of 625 meters of concrete roads across five hamlets.
Religious and cultural traditions remain central to the observance. Many communities are focusing on the recitation of prayers, shalawat, and the famous Qasidah Burdah, a poem composed by the 13th-century Egyptian scholar Imam al-Bushiri. Educational institutions and mosques are also organizing structured events, including religious lectures and Islamic arts performances, to encourage the emulation of the Prophet's character.
