Indonesia national holidays in August 2026

The Indonesian government has confirmed the national holiday schedule for August 2026, which includes the 81st anniversary of Indonesia’s independence on Monday, 17 August, and the observance of Maulid Nabi Muhammad SAW on Tuesday, 25 August.

The designation of these holidays follows a joint decree from the Ministers of Religious Affairs, Manpower, and State Apparatus Utilization and Bureaucratic Reform. The Maulid Nabi holiday corresponds to 12 Rabiul Awal 1448 Hijriah and is typically marked by religious activities such as prayer, reciting the Quran, and charitable acts.

As the observance approaches, preparations are intensifying across various regions. In Raja Ampat, local authorities continue to use the occasion to promote social cohesion through community activities like fun walks. In Tanggumong, Sampang, residents have initiated a donor-funded project to transform traditional food offerings into infrastructure development, funding the construction of 625 meters of concrete roads across five hamlets.

Religious and cultural traditions remain central to the upcoming celebrations. Many communities are focusing on the recitation of prayers, shalawat, and the Qasidah Burdah, a poem by the 13th-century scholar Imam al-Bushiri. Educational institutions and mosques are also organizing structured events, including religious lectures and Islamic arts performances, to encourage the emulation of the Prophet’s character.

Other regional observances include commemorations at the Al-Akbar Balangan Grand Mosque, where local government officials have called for citizens to emulate the Prophet’s character. Similar observances in Singapore focus on fostering unity and compassion through processions, lectures, and social welfare programs.
