Indonesia President Prabowo backs FIFA ASEAN Cup bid and World Cup 2030 prep

President Prabowo Subianto met with Youth and Sports Minister Erick Thohir and national team coach John Herdman, affirming full government support for Indonesia’s bid to host the FIFA ASEAN Cup scheduled for September‑October 2026 and for the national team’s preparation ahead of the 2030 World Cup qualifying round that begins in September 2027. He announced he will issue a letter to FIFA to strengthen the hosting proposal and emphasized that all PSSI programs for the national squad must be maintained.

Separately, the Jakarta chapter of the Indonesian Community Sports Committee (KORMI DKI) pledged to deepen collaboration with the provincial government and other stakeholders in preparation for the National Community Sports Festival (FORNAS) 2027. Chair Diana Dewi highlighted the need for long‑term planning, inclusive sports programs and a healthier population, echoing the governor’s call for Jakarta to become a global‑standard, health‑focused city.
