Indonesia promotes literacy initiatives on Library Visit Day
In observance of Library Visit Day on September 14, 2026, Indonesian institutions are launching initiatives to boost national literacy and modernize library services.
The National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas) is hosting exhibitions in Jakarta to promote literacy through the creative adaptation of ancient manuscripts into children's books and comics. This collaboration with the Bandung Institute of Technology (ITB) aims to make historical knowledge more accessible to younger generations. The library is also hosting activities ranging from gardening to waste management to serve as a contextual learning space.
In Sampang Regency, the local Library and Archives Service reports a positive trend in reading interest. To maintain this momentum, officials are promoting digital library services via the Demaca platform and utilizing mobile libraries to reach remote areas. Local authorities are also encouraging schools and village governments to establish their own libraries to ensure credible information remains accessible despite the rise of digital media.
