Indonesia promotes literacy through regional festivals and national manuscript exhibitions

Indonesia is hosting various literacy-focused events to engage the younger generation with national knowledge and culture. In Kendal, the Regional Library (Perpusda) launched the 2026 Literacy Festival under the theme ‘Literate, Collaborate, Inspire, Independent’. The initiative aims to build a creative and critical society capable of processing information and turning ideas into solutions.

Simultaneously, the National Library of Indonesia (Perpusnas) is observing Library Visit Day with an exhibition titled ‘Preserving Memory, Awakening Awareness’ in Jakarta. Running from September 14 to September 30, 2026, the exhibition features Nusantara manuscripts recognized by UNESCO’s Memory of the World program. The event uses visual and interactive elements to help the public, particularly youth, connect with the nation's intellectual and cultural identity.
