Indonesia pushes ahead as Sekolah Rakyat school builds reach 78% completion
Public Works Minister Dody Hanggodo announced that construction of the Sekolah Rakyat (People's School) projects across Indonesia is 78% complete, with the goal of having elementary, junior high and senior high school buildings ready for the new academic year in July 2026. He cited progress in Central Java’s Sukoharjo District, now in the “green zone,” and described challenges such as road damage from heavy vehicles and the need for temporary bridges to keep logistics flowing.
In Aceh’s Nagan Raya Regency, the ministry reported 64% progress on a local Sekolah Rakyat site covering 8.1 hectares. The project faces steep logistical hurdles, including difficult road transport from Medan and limited airport capacity for cargo aircraft. Officials are exploring air‑lift options and encouraging the use of local batching plants to reduce reliance on distant material supplies. The target is to have the school functional by the end of June 2026 so students can start classes in July.
