Indonesia pushes broader employment for people with disabilities

Indonesia’s Minister of Population and Family Planning, Wihaji, called on employers to expand job opportunities for graduates with special needs during a visit to a special needs school in Jakarta. He noted that around 250,000 students with disabilities are in formal education nationwide and cited a local firm that already employs more than 200 disabled workers.

The Ministry of Social Affairs’ ATENSI (Assistive Social Rehabilitation) program in Jombang is also showcasing the economic potential of persons with psychosocial disabilities. Beneficiaries are producing items such as salted eggs, woven bags and coconut‑broom brushes for sale. Social‑aid advisor Fatma Saifullah Yusuf highlighted the program’s role in providing training, therapy and micro‑enterprise support, urging society to treat disabled individuals as full members with equal rights to work and live with dignity.
