Indonesia pushes digital creator sector and 8% growth goal amid global competition
Economist Rony P Sasmita said Indonesia’s digital creator economy must focus on higher‑quality, differentiated content, diversified revenue streams such as brand partnerships and memberships, and strong government support that recognises creators as a formal economic sector. He highlighted the country’s youthful demographics, high internet penetration and widespread creative talent as competitive advantages.
The government under President Prabowo Subianto is targeting an 8% annual GDP growth rate by 2029. Policy aims include tighter coordination of fiscal and monetary measures, accelerated high‑value‑add investment, and stronger energy and food security programs. Officials stress that growth will come from productive investment and export‑oriented sectors rather than increased state spending alone.
