Indonesia pushes environmental and housing regulatory reforms

The Special Committee of the West Java Regional House of Representatives (DPRD) consulted the Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the Ministry of Forestry to refine a draft regional regulation on environmental protection and management. Committee chair Jenal Arifin said the consultation aimed to align the draft with national policy, avoid overlap with existing regulations and clarify technical terms such as APARA, RTPD, TPN and RTP.

At the national level, Housing and Settlement Areas Minister Maruarar Sirait announced a draft ministerial regulation for the “Program Bedah Rumah”. The regulation simplifies eligibility requirements by allowing village or district authorities to certify land ownership instead of formal certificates. Reviewed with the Audit Board, the Ministry of Law and other agencies, the draft is expected to be signed soon to broaden access to housing assistance while preserving transparency and accountability.
