Indonesia pushes future skills forecasting at BRICS labour meeting

Indonesian Manpower Minister Yassierli addressed the BRICS Labour and Employment Ministers’ Meeting 2026 in Hyderabad, India, and proposed that future‑skills forecasting become a priority within the BRICS CONNECT cooperation platform. He argued that such forecasting would help member states anticipate labour market shifts driven by technology, industrial transformation, demographic change and the transition to a green economy.

Yassierli also highlighted Indonesia’s own initiatives, including expanded training access, social protection for informal workers, a task force to mitigate layoffs, improved job‑loss insurance, and inclusive programmes for women, persons with disabilities and remote‑area residents. He cited the construction of a vocational‑training centre for disabled workers, the National Internship Programme and the National Vocational Training Programme targeting a combined 450,000 participants this year, and the development of an integrated digital employment‑services platform to support faster policy‑making. He affirmed Indonesia’s readiness to cooperate with all BRICS members on building a more resilient, inclusive and sustainable employment landscape.
