Indonesia Quarantine Agency to support MSMEs in global export expansion

The Indonesian Ministry of Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and the Indonesian Quarantine Agency (Barantin) are collaborating to transform the agency's role from a purely protective entity into a proactive driver for national exports. During the opening of the Indonesia Quarantine Expo (IQExpo) 2026, Minister of MSMEs Maman Abdurrahman described this shift as moving ‘from keeper to striker,’ emphasizing that quarantine services should act as strategic partners to help small businesses penetrate international markets.

Barantin Head Abdul Kadir Karding stated that while protecting biological resources remains a primary function, the agency is accelerating processes related to international trade. To assist MSMEs, Barantin is focusing on helping businesses meet strict international standards regarding product quality, safety, and traceability. The agency has also established an ‘Export Clinic’ to provide technical guidance, data on international commodity needs, and information on the specific requirements of destination countries to ensure Indonesian products remain competitive and compliant.
