Indonesia raises Pertamax fuel price, economists urge cash aid and targeted subsidies

Pertamina Patra Niaga increased the retail price of non‑subsidised Pertamax (RON 92) from IDR 12,300 to IDR 16,250 per litre and Pertamax Green (RON 95) from IDR 12,900 to IDR 17,000 per litre, effective 10 June 2026. Economists Fakhrul Fulvian of Trimegah Sekuritas and Wijayanto Samirin of Paramadina University said the roughly 30 % hike threatens household consumption and could fuel inflation. They urged the Indonesian government to roll out rapid, digitally‑managed cash assistance for low‑income and middle‑low groups and to keep fuel subsidies precisely targeted to those who actually use subsidised fuels. Both also recommended protecting subsidies for electricity, LPG and BPJS health, stabilising staple‑food prices, and monitoring mortgage‑credit terms to avoid further pressure on families.
