Indonesia manages 5.25 million tons of rice stock amid fortified rice investigation
Indonesia's national rice reserves have reached 5.25 million tons as of August 9, 2026, according to Perum Bulog. This stock, which includes accumulated year-start reserves and domestic grain absorption, is distributed across Bulog's national warehouse network to ensure food availability and price stability. Officials clarified that the stock is actively moving through distribution channels rather than merely accumulating in warehouses.
Simultaneously, the National Food Agency (Bapanas) has launched an investigation into 40 brands of fortified rice. Authorities are testing over 100 samples from eight producers after discovering that some products do not meet nutritional content standards or make inaccurate nutritional claims. Bapanas stated that licenses for brands proven to violate fortification regulations will be revoked.
The Ministry of Trade is collaborating with Bapanas to oversee the distribution and market circulation of these products. While discrepancies in nutritional content have been identified, the Ministry noted that it has not yet received formal consumer complaints regarding financial losses.
