Indonesia records 40 fires in Jayapura and major blaze near Jakarta's Kebayoran Lama market

The Jayapura city government reported that from January through 14 July 2026 its fire‑rescue service handled 40 fire incidents, including 28 building fires and 12 non‑building fires such as trash‑bin and vehicle blazes. Mayor Dr Abisai Rollo urged residents to check electrical installations, use cooking appliances safely and never leave open flames unattended, emphasizing community responsibility for prevention.

In Jakarta, the South fire department deployed 90 personnel and 22 fire‑engine units to extinguish a fire that broke out on Tuesday night near the Kebayoran Lama market in Grogol Selatan. Department head Asril Rizal said the blaze appeared to originate from a storage warehouse, and authorities were still assessing casualties, injuries and property loss while police managed traffic around the site.
