Indonesia records two magnitude‑5 quakes, no tsunami or damage

Indonesia experienced two separate shallow earthquakes on 24 July 2026. A magnitude 5.4 quake struck offshore the southwest coast of Enggano Island in Bengkulu province at a depth of about 10 km, with the epicenter 185 km west‑southwest of the island. BMKG reported no tsunami risk and, as of the latest update, there were no injuries or damage reported.

Later that morning a magnitude 5.7–5.8 earthquake occurred 115 km west‑southwest of Ternate in the Maluku Islands, at a depth of around 27 km. The tremor was felt with shaking intensities ranging from III to V on the MMI scale across several localities, but no structural damage or casualties were reported and no tsunami was expected. Monitoring agencies said no aftershocks had been detected yet.
