Indonesia recovers billions from Eddy Tansil asset seizure

The Attorney General's Office (Kejaksaan Agung) announced that assets linked to former businessman Eddy Tansil have been recovered, contributing Rp 51.6 billion to the state’s non‑tax revenue (PNBP) of about Rp 1.029 trillion. The recovered assets stem from a 1990s corruption case involving the misuse of a Rp 1.3 trillion state loan, for which Tansil was sentenced to 20 years in prison and ordered to pay Rp 500 billion in compensation.

Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa praised the result, saying, "yang saya kaget tadi kasus Eddy Tansil… uangnya masih bisa diperoleh juga ya," highlighting the long‑term effort to reclaim stolen funds. Former prosecutor Tri Adhyaksa Viravibawa cautioned that the asset tracing is not yet complete, noting that “tim jaksa itu sudah bekerja lebih dari tuntutan negara” and urging a renewed, thorough investigation.

The assets, once seized in the 1990s, were transferred to several state‑owned banks for safekeeping, and any surplus from future sales is to be returned to the state treasury.
