Indonesia rice stocks reach record 4.56 million tons

Indonesia's national rice stocks reached a record 4.56 million tons in October 2026, according to Agriculture Minister Andi Amran Sulaiman. This figure represents a historic high for the country, supported by strong production and strategic reserves. With a monthly national requirement of approximately 2.5 million tons, officials estimate that current stocks are sufficient to ensure food security through July 2027.

To manage increasing volumes, Perum Bulog's Semarang branch has expanded its storage capacity by renting additional warehouses for approximately 20,000 tons. The Semarang branch currently manages about 81,600 tons of rice, distributed across eight warehouse complexes. To maintain the quality of Government Rice Reserves (CBP), Bulog is implementing strict quality control measures, including sorting at loading docks, daily inspections, spraying, and fumigation.

Bulog has also exceeded its 2026 domestic rice absorption target, reaching 4.25 million tons as of late October, which is 106 percent of its initial 4 million ton goal. This success is attributed to a “jemput bola” strategy, where teams coordinate directly with farmers, agricultural extension workers, and local authorities to purchase grain during harvest periods.
