Indonesia reports rising consumer savings and improved financial literacy
Recent data from Indonesian financial institutions indicates shifts in consumer behavior and financial access. The Indonesia Deposit Insurance Corporation (LPS) reported that the Consumer Savings Index rose 1.6 points to 79.4 in August 2026. This increase was driven by a rise in the willingness to save, which climbed 3.4 points to 86.9, as the pressure from food and fuel prices eased. Notably, the highest growth in savings interest was observed among low-income groups earning up to Rp1.5 million per month.
Separately, the Financial Services Authority (OJK) released the 2026 National Survey of Financial Literacy and Inclusion (SNLIK). The results show a national financial literacy index of 66.64 percent and a financial inclusion index of 92.74 percent. Urban areas reported higher rates than rural areas, with literacy at 72.54 percent compared to 64.42 percent in rural regions. DKI Jakarta leads the country in both literacy (84.01 percent) and inclusion (99.43 percent).
