Indonesia requests removal of Hornet app from major app stores

Indonesia’s Ministry of Communication and Digital (Komdigi) has requested Apple and Google to delist the Hornet application from the App Store and Play Store for users in Indonesia.

Alexander Sabar, Director General of Digital Space Supervision at Komdigi, stated that the move follows public complaints regarding Hornet’s content related to LGBTIQ+ campaigns, which the ministry claims conflicts with national values, norms, and legal provisions.

Beyond content concerns, the ministry identified a compliance failure, noting that Hornet has not registered as an Electronic System Provider (PSE) in Indonesia. Sabar emphasized that all digital platforms operating in the country must adhere to local laws and regulations, regardless of their origin or scale, and indicated that the government will continue to monitor and process other platforms with similar services.
