Indonesia Ride‑Hailing Commission Cut to 8% Keeps Fares Unchanged

Effective 1 July 2026, Indonesia’s government will reduce the commission taken by ride‑hailing platforms such as Gojek, Grab and Maxim from 20 % to 8 % under Presidential Regulation No 27/2026. Transport Minister Dudy Purwagandhi stressed that the fare structure will remain static, saying, “Enggak, enggak naik. Tarif enggak naik.” The cost of mandatory insurance will now be borne entirely by the platforms, removing it from the fare calculation.

Analysts note that while the commission reduction eases driver costs, it may pressure app operators to seek other revenue streams. Paramadina Public Policy Institute’s Muhammad Fajar Anandi warned that companies could raise baseline fares or introduce higher‑priced “Hemat” programmes, which could offset driver earnings. Driver Ayaturohman expressed cautious optimism: “Lebih baik kalau jadi 8 %. Tetapi saya tidak tahu nanti program Hemat bagaimana?” Transparency of order‑allocation algorithms and the potential for reduced order volume remain additional concerns for the gig‑economy workforce.
