Indonesia's 2026 Economic Census begins in Yogyakarta and Riau

The 2026 Economic Census, coordinated by Indonesia's Badan Pusat Statistik (BPS), is being carried out across the nation to map regional economic potential. In Yogyakarta (DIY), Acting Governor Paku Alam X was photographed as a respondent while Governor Sri Sultan Hamengku Buwono X expressed full support. Acting BPS head Endang Tri Wahyuningsih said, “With good data, the government can formulate more precise policies.”

In Kuantan Singingi, Riau, Regent Dr H. Suhardiman Amby pledged backing and launched the local census with BPS officials. He noted that the census results will serve as a key reference for future development planning. The census staff have deployed over 4,000 enumerators, reaching about 9 % of the target area, and assure respondents that data are protected under the 1997 Statistics Law.

Authorities across provinces, including the Vice Governor of South Sulawesi, are urging residents to provide accurate information, emphasising that the collected data will underpin policies for sectors such as education, tourism, creative industries and MSMEs.
