Indonesia school holiday surge drives travel discounts, tax breaks and financial guidance

Indonesia’s school holiday period, running from late June to early July 2026, has families preparing for expenses such as school fees and recreation. Financial‑literacy experts urged parents to assess borrowing costs and choose transparent digital loan options before taking on additional debt.

The government introduced a 100 % VAT exemption on domestic economy‑class airline tickets for the holiday window, a measure announced by Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa to lower travel costs.

Indonesia’s rail operator, PT Kereta Api Indonesia (KAI), rolled out a 30 % fare discount on standard tickets, reminded passengers of baggage limits, and reported a sharp rise in holiday travel, with over 170,000 long‑distance rail passengers arriving in the Jakarta area in the first five days. KAI Commuter added a special Rp 1 fare on the Tanjung Priok line for the week of 22‑28 June.

E‑commerce platform Blibli launched a “Pay Day” promotion offering discounts on home‑entertainment and sports gear, positioning the school break as an opportunity for families to spend quality time together at home.
