Indonesia Holds Fuel Prices Steady, Plans Bio‑Ethanol Gasoline, and Continues Russian Oil Imports
The Indonesian government announced that subsidised gasoline (pertalite) and LPG prices will not be increased despite global oil price volatility. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia confirmed pertalite remains at about 10,000 IDR per litre and biosolar at 6,800 IDR per litre, while reaffirming national fuel stock levels are above minimum standards.
The ministry is also reviewing the economics of the non‑subsidised premium fuel Pertamax. Deputy Minister Yuliot said the calculation will compare Pertamina’s production cost with a profit margin and will be based on the average world oil price. If the average price falls, Pertamina may lower Pertamax rates.
Separately, Indonesia is preparing to introduce gasoline blended with 10 % bio‑ethanol (E10) in 2027, followed by a mandatory 20 % blend (E20) in 2028‑29. The plan mirrors previous bio‑diesel roll‑outs and hinges on developing a domestic bio‑ethanol industry to avoid reliance on imported ethanol.
The country will also maintain crude oil imports from Russia through a government‑to‑government scheme managed by Lemigas. A recent shipment of 770,000 barrels valued at roughly $75 million arrived at Balikpapan, East Kalimantan, underscoring the effort to secure energy supplies amid geopolitical tensions.
