Indonesia seeks Chinese investment for 100 GW solar power plan

Indonesian Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto met Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao in Shanghai and invited Chinese firms to invest in Indonesia's 100‑gigawatt solar power program, a target set by President Prabowo Subianto and slated for completion by 2029. The plan aims to expand clean‑energy capacity, strengthen the domestic solar panel supply chain, and support emission‑reduction goals, citing the Cirata floating solar plant as a model of bilateral cooperation. Hartarto noted that China is Indonesia's largest trading partner, with 2025 bilateral trade reaching US$154.6 billion and Chinese foreign direct investment amounting to about US$8.1 billion, roughly 13 % of total FDI. Discussions also covered the Two Countries Twin Parks framework, greater market access, and Indonesia’s bid to host the RCEP Secretariat ahead of the APEC 2026 summit, with hopes to announce priority projects at an upcoming leaders’ meeting.
