Indonesia seeks global investment for 100 GWp solar energy target
Indonesia is working to transform its 100 GWp solar energy target from a national ambition into a viable magnet for global investment. At the Indonesia Solar Investment Forum 2026 held in New York, industry leaders and financial institutions discussed the necessity of moving beyond political commitment toward actionable projects.
To attract international capital, experts suggest Indonesia must establish clear procurement schedules, viable commercial schemes, and coordinated infrastructure development. Laura Thomas of the Climate Group noted that many global companies already possess the experience and technology required for energy transitions and are looking for markets that can translate global models into local contexts through regulatory certainty.
Mada Ayu Habsari, Chairperson of the Indonesian Solar Energy Association (AESI), stated that the 100 GWp target is a direct mandate that offers immediate opportunities for investors. Current initiatives include utility-scale projects such as the Mentari 1 and Mentari 2 programs, which offer 2.7 GWp, alongside rural electrification tenders targeting over 600 villages next year. The focus remains on aligning policy frameworks and financing structures to meet the expectations of international developers.
