Indonesia seeks justice and transparency for creative industry royalties

Indonesian Minister of Law Supratman Andi Agtas has pledged to fight for the royalty rights of Indonesia’s creative industry. Speaking at the Global Forum on Intellectual Property (GFIP) during Singapore IP Week 2026, Supratman emphasized that Indonesia is seeking justice and transparency rather than charity.

As a concrete step, Indonesia has submitted a ‘Proposal for a Legally Binding International Instrument on the Governance of Copyright Royalty in Digital Environment’ to the WIPO Standing Committee on Copyright and Related Rights (SCCR). Supratman noted that digital royalty issues are central to inclusive economic growth, stating that a sustainable creative economy requires creators to receive fair compensation for their work.

Additionally, the Minister called upon ASEAN, China, and South Korea to collaborate in achieving transparency and fairness in royalty distribution.
