Indonesia seeks to expand skilled migrant worker placement in UAE

The Indonesian Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI) is seeking to expand the placement of skilled Indonesian migrant workers in the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Minister Mukhtarudin highlighted key sectors for growth, including hospitality, manufacturing, and welding.

To support this initiative, the government is implementing several strategic measures, such as the ‘SMK Go Global’ program aimed at producing internationally competitive vocational graduates. The ministry also plans to utilize ‘gastro-labor diplomacy’ to integrate labor diplomacy with the hospitality sector and will facilitate business matching between employers, recruitment agencies, and educational institutions.

Data from the ministry shows that between January 2025 and October 13, 2026, the government facilitated 2,074 placements to the UAE, with 1,927 workers currently holding active contracts. The ministry emphasized that all placements must follow official mechanisms to ensure job security and the protection of workers' rights.
