Indonesia raw cabai (chili) prices surge to record levels, egg and staples also rise

Bank Indonesia’s food‑price monitoring reported that raw red cabai (chili) reached Rp61,450 per kilogram on 9 July 2026, keeping the commodity among the highest contributors to food‑price inflation. Egg prices were quoted at Rp29,050 per kilogram, while other staples such as rice and cooking oil showed mixed movements.

Data from 7 July 2026 showed green raw cabai climbing 4.85% to Rp49,750 per kilogram and red raw cabai up 2.12% to Rp55,500 per kilogram. At the same time, several items fell: red curly cabai dropped 4.47%, onions and garlic slipped by about 3%, and chicken meat fell 2.25%. Analysts linked the price swings to supply factors and a temporary dip in demand from the school‑feeding program during holidays.

Additional reports cited raw cabai prices of Rp62,150 per kilogram and a later spike to Rp80,050 per kilogram, underscoring a rapid upward trend across days. The mixed pattern of rising chili and egg costs alongside falling prices for other commodities intensifies concerns over household purchasing power in Indonesia.
