Indonesia sees shift toward healthy lifestyle trends
A significant shift in social trends is occurring in Indonesia, where young people are moving away from displaying material goods on social media in favor of showcasing healthy lifestyles and physical achievements.
Community-based sports and fitness competitions have seen massive growth. In 2026, over 500 running events were held across 34 provinces and more than 200 cities. The number of running clubs in Indonesia reportedly increased nearly sixfold in 2025 compared to the previous year. Notably, the BTN Jakarta International Marathon 2026 saw 45,500 participants, a 47% increase from 2025.
Hybrid fitness, such as HYROX—which combines running with functional training—has gained popularity among urban professionals. The HYROX Jakarta event in June 2026 attracted over 11,500 participants over two days. The Ministry of Youth and Sports has identified this as a growing phenomenon in the country.
