Indonesia solar power target could create 5.52 million jobs

Prof. Syamsir Abduh of the Institut Teknologi PLN (ITPLN) has stated that Indonesia's target to develop 100 gigawatt peak (GWp) of solar power (PLTS) could potentially create 5.52 million jobs. To achieve this, he emphasizes the need for an integrated industrial development strategy rather than focusing solely on large-scale power plants.

Syamsir suggests expanding solar energy utilization to include rooftop solar and distributed systems across residential, commercial, industrial, public, and rural sectors. This expansion would create opportunities for local installation and maintenance companies. To ensure success, he proposes six pillars: strengthening solar manufacturing (including modules, inverters, and cables), accelerating large-scale projects, expanding rooftop solar, developing operations and maintenance, improving workforce skills, and strengthening the domestic supply chain.
