Indonesia speeds up construction of 93 Sekolah Rakyat schools, targets June 2026 finish

The Ministry of Public Works (PU) is intensifying work on Phase II of the Sekolah Rakyat (People's Schools) program, aiming to complete construction of 93 schools by the end of June 2026. By 4 June 2026 the average physical progress across all sites reached 71 percent, with five locations – Semarang, Sragen, Bengkulu, Medan and Sidrap – exceeding 85 percent. Twelve sites are already in the “green zone” with progress above 80 percent.

Minister Dody Hanggodo said daily targets of 1‑3 percent are being chased and that the government is addressing labour shortages by deploying TNI personnel and bridging cash‑flow gaps for contractors. An additional 11 school sites are entering the tender stage, with contracts expected in July and completion planned for December 2026.
