Indonesia Sports Minister supports prosecution of former climbing coach

Indonesian Minister of Youth and Sports, Erick Thohir, has expressed full support for the legal proceedings against a former head coach of the Indonesian Climbing Federation (FPTI), identified by the initials HB, for alleged sexual violence.

Bareskrim Polri's Directorate of Crimes Against Women and Children has named HB a suspect following allegations of repeated sexual abuse involving five female athletes. The incidents reportedly occurred between 2022 and December 2025. The case file has been declared complete (P-21), and the suspect, along with evidence, has been transferred to the Bekasi District Attorney's Office.

Thohir emphasized that the government is committed to ensuring justice and protection for the victims. He called for the case to serve as a momentum to strengthen athlete protection systems across all national sports organizations, stating that sports must be a safe environment free from power abuse and violence.
