Indonesia Stock Exchange implements new minimum price and short selling rules

The Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX) has implemented significant regulatory changes to its capital market. Effective September 28, 2026, the minimum stock price was lowered from Rp50 to Rp1 in the regular and cash markets. This measure aims to enhance liquidity and improve the price discovery process, particularly for stocks that previously lacked movement at the Rp50 floor.

Alongside this price change, the IDX revised the criteria for the Special Monitoring Board. The exchange removed four criteria related to trading prices, liquidity, free float requirements, and temporary suspensions to sharpen price discovery. As a result, 92 securities were removed from the Special Monitoring Board, while 42 remain under monitoring based on fundamental criteria such as financial reporting and debt restructuring.

Furthermore, the IDX has authorized the resumption of short selling starting October 1, 2026. This facility is initially limited to five major stocks: PT Astra International Tbk (ASII), PT Bank Central Asia Tbk (BBCA), PT Barito Pacific Tbk (BRPT), PT Bumi Resources Tbk (BUMI), and PT Indofood Sukses Makmur Tbk (INDF). To mitigate risk, short selling is restricted to experienced investors who maintain a minimum initial capital of Rp50 million and have held a regular trading account for at least six months. Transactions will be facilitated by two designated brokers: Semesta Indovest Sekuritas and Ajaib Sekuritas.
