Indonesia strengthens digital immigration oversight and human trafficking response
The Indonesian Directorate General of Immigration is optimizing immigration surveillance through digital technology. During a coordination meeting in Bandung, Director General Hendarsam Marantoko highlighted the use of the Foreigner Reporting Application (APOA), Subject of Interest (SOI), and the development of the APGAKUM Refugee Law Enforcement Application. These tools aim to improve data accuracy, enhance early detection, and accelerate the monitoring of foreign nationals and refugees. The SOI system, integrated with the Immigration Management Information System (SIMKIM), helps identify individuals requiring special attention, including international fugitives.
Simultaneously, the Coordinating Ministry for Political and Security Affairs is developing a National Referral Mechanism (NRM) to combat human trafficking (TPPO). In collaboration with various ministries, local governments, and the International Organization for Migration (IOM) Indonesia, the NRM seeks to integrate victim handling, clarify inter-agency roles, and ensure comprehensive protection. The mechanism covers stages from identification and rescue to social reintegration, aiming to create a systematic and continuous framework for managing trafficking victims.
