Indonesia strengthens migrant worker protection and international labor cooperation

The Indonesian Ministry of Migrant Worker Protection (P2MI) is advancing initiatives to enhance the protection and quality of Indonesian migrant workers through regional cooperation and international diplomacy.

In Jakarta, Minister Mukhtarudin met with Kuwaiti Ambassador Khalid Jassim Alyassin to discuss updating a 1996 labor Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The discussions focused on expanding opportunities for skilled Indonesian workers in Kuwait's formal sectors. The Minister emphasized that increasing worker competency, language skills, and discipline aligns with President Prabowo Subianto’s directives to improve placement quality and protection.

On a regional level, the Tanah Datar Regency government has strengthened its synergy with the Ministry of P2MI. During a visit by Deputy Minister Dzulfikar Ahmad Tawalla, officials discussed improving services and education for migrant workers from the region. The collaboration aims to ensure citizens use official, safe channels for overseas employment and receive adequate guidance regarding their rights and obligations.
