Indonesia strengthens migrant worker safeguards and university partnership with Turkey

Head of the Presidential Staff, General (Ret.) Dudung Abdurachman, affirmed the government’s commitment to provide comprehensive protection for Indonesian migrant workers. The protection covers all stages—from preparation and departure to employment abroad and repatriation—emphasising competency training and safety, and pledging that no Indonesian migrant will be left without state support.

The Ministry of Education, Science and Technology signed a new cooperation agreement with Turkey, building on a February 2025 MoU. The partnership will expand student and faculty mobility, joint research, double‑degree programmes and collaborative projects in areas such as sustainable agriculture, health technology, defence, artificial intelligence, semiconductors, renewable energy, disaster management and marine science. A Joint Working Group will oversee implementation, aiming to increase the number of PhD‑qualified lecturers and explore joint vaccine research.

Together, these initiatives signal Indonesia’s push to protect its overseas workforce while deepening international collaboration in higher education and technology.
