National Nutrition Agency strengthens oversight of MBG program
The National Nutrition Agency (BGN) is implementing rigorous oversight for the Free Nutritious Meal (MBG) program following several operational and financial challenges. To ensure food safety, BGN Head Sudaryono has mandated that if any single component of a meal package is deemed unfit, the entire package must be returned to the Nutrition Fulfillment Service Unit (SPPG) for investigation. Teachers have been encouraged to perform organoleptic checks and can report issues via a newly established dedicated email channel.
Following evaluations of food poisoning incidents, BGN has dismissed 137 SPPG heads to enforce stricter adherence to safety standards. While Sudaryono noted that poisoning statistics have decreased compared to previous periods, the agency maintains a goal of zero incidents.
Financial and data integrity issues have also surfaced. The Ministry of Finance reported various financial deficiencies, and BGN identified approximately 6 million duplicate recipient data entries. Additionally, BGN discovered 414 non-existent kitchens that had received funds through Virtual Accounts, leading to the return of Rp311 billion. To address these discrepancies, BGN is collaborating with the Ministry of Home Affairs and the Civil Registry (Dukcapil) to update recipient data and improve program transparency.
