Indonesia strengthens safety measures for volcano tourism

The Indonesian Ministry of Tourism is intensifying safety measures for tourists visiting volcanic areas due to recent volcanic activity. Spokesperson Nia Niscaya stated that safety decisions are driven by real-time monitoring data and official recommendations rather than the mere number of active volcanoes.

To mitigate risks, the government is implementing several strategies, including risk mapping, capacity control, and the enhancement of mitigation infrastructure such as evacuation routes, assembly points, and warning signs. The Ministry is also focusing on human resource development, providing safety training for destination managers and mountain guides to ensure they meet national competency standards.

Coordination between various ministries, agencies, and regional governments is being strengthened to ensure safety standards are applied consistently. Because volcanic activity is dynamic, the Ministry emphasized that restrictions on tourism activities will be adjusted according to the specific alert status of each volcano.
