Indonesia targets 2027 launch for Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchange
The Indonesian government aims to operationalize the Mineral and Strategic Commodity Exchange (BMKS) by January 1, 2027. The initiative seeks to create a more transparent and credible trading system where producers, farmers, exporters, buyers, and investors can interact within a single, supervised framework to minimize fraud.
The Financial Services Authority (OJK) will be responsible for the regulation and supervision of the exchange. OJK Chairperson Friderica Widyasari Dewi stated that the authority is currently drafting two specific OJK regulations (POJK). The first will outline the phased transition of mineral and strategic commodity transactions to the BMKS, while the second will serve as the formal legal framework for the exchange's technical operations and governance.
In addition to regulatory drafting, OJK is preparing internal operational elements, including human resources formation, budgeting, and organizational structures. The government is also seeking support from the House of Representatives (DPR RI) to expedite the discussion and issuance of the necessary legal provisions to meet the 2027 target.
