Indonesia increases national gas supply via East Kalimantan projects
Indonesia is set to increase its national gas supply by approximately 290 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) through the development of the Jangkrik North East #6 (JNE#6) and Maha-South Hub projects off the coast of East Kalimantan. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia inaugurated the gas reception and production facilities, noting that total production is expected to reach 750 MMSCFD by November 1, 2026.
The JNE#6 project saw a significant production surge, increasing from 10 MMSCFD to 56 MMSCFD following successful side-tracking drilling. The Maha-South Hub, representing an investment of approximately $891 million, is projected to contribute 230 MMSCFD and is expected to create over 700 jobs.
In related energy developments, the Masela Block's Abadi LNG project is moving toward a Final Investment Decision (FID). A domestic gas sale and purchase agreement is scheduled for signing on October 28, 2026, to supply 150 MMSCFD to Pupuk Indonesia via pipeline, with remaining LNG allocated to PGN and PLN to support industrial and electricity needs.
