Indonesia targets October 22 deadline for Oil and Gas Bill revision

The Indonesian Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) aims to submit the List of Problem Inventories (DIM) for the Oil and Gas Bill (RUU Migas) revision to the President by October 22. This legislative process follows a presidential letter issued by President Prabowo Subianto on September 14, 2026, instructing Minister Bahlil Lahadalia to coordinate the DIM with relevant ministries and agencies.

Both the government and parliament hope to complete the discussions and pass the bill within this year. The revision is an initiative from the House of Representatives (DPR). Key components of the proposed law include the establishment of a Special Oil and Gas Business Entity (BUK Migas). This entity is expected to take over duties currently held by SKK Migas and will report directly to the President. Additionally, BUK Migas may be granted the authority to manage oil and gas reserve funds to support infrastructure development, research, and the increase of oil and gas lifting.
