Jakarta laborers protest at DPR/MPR Complex over Labor Protection Bill
Thousands of laborers, including members of the Indonesian Labor Union Association Confederation (ASPEK Indonesia) and the Great Coalition of Indonesian Labor Struggle, gathered at the DPR/MPR RI Complex in Jakarta on Tuesday, September 29, 2026. The demonstration was organized to monitor the discussion and planned ratification of the Labor Protection Bill.
To manage the large-scale protest, which involved approximately 20,000 participants, the Polda Metro Jaya deployed 17,628 personnel. Security measures included the deployment of joint TNI and Polri forces, particularly around the parliamentary complex, where nearly 5,000 officers were stationed. Traffic engineering was implemented across several major routes, including Jalan Gatot Subroto and the Semanggi area, to mitigate congestion.
DPR leadership, including Vice Chairman Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, expressed openness to receiving the workers' aspirations. Representatives from the DPR were scheduled to meet directly with labor leaders to facilitate dialogue regarding worker rights and welfare.
