Pertamax price increase leads to long queues for Pertalite at Indonesian gas stations

On 10 June 2026, Indonesia’s state fuel retailer Pertamina raised the retail price of its non‑subsidised gasoline Pertamax (RON 92) from Rp 12,300 to Rp 16,250 per litre, and Pertamax Green (RON 95) from Rp 12,900 to Rp 17,000. The hike was applied nationwide, with regional variations – for example, Pertamax priced at Rp 17,000 in Sumatra and Rp 16,250 in Java.

The jump prompted motorists, especially motorbike riders, to line up for the cheaper subsidised fuel Pertalite (price unchanged at Rp 10,000 / L). At stations in Jakarta West, Jakarta East, Padang and Palangka Raya, queues of 20‑plus motorcycles were reported, with some riders buying a single litre of Pertamax only as an emergency fill‑up. One rider said, “Udah ketebak, pasti bakal antre panjang lah Pertalite,” warning of longer waits.

Other fuel sellers, such as BP, also adjusted their RON 92 price to Rp 16,670 per litre. Station supervisors noted that most customers were unaware of the increase until they paid at the pump, and no major complaints had yet been recorded. Officials expect the price change to shift consumption patterns in the coming days, while the subsidised Pertalite and biosolar prices remain unchanged.
