Indonesia to export 200,000 tons of premium rice to Malaysia

Indonesia has reached an agreement to export 200,000 tons of premium rice to Malaysia. The initial shipment of 1,000 tons is expected to depart shortly, with the total export value estimated at approximately Rp3.4 trillion.

Minister of Agriculture Andi Amran Sulaiman stated that the agreement follows discussions with Malaysian Agriculture Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Sabu. The export is being conducted in stages to ensure national food security remains stable. Currently, Bulog holds a rice stock of 5.2 million tons, and the government has secured additional warehouse capacity to manage a surplus of approximately 2 million tons.

The demand in Sarawak alone is estimated at 200,000 tons, while Malaysia's total annual requirement ranges between 1.5 and 1.7 million tons. The agreed price for the premium rice is approximately 3.9 Malaysian Ringgit, or roughly Rp17,000 per kilogram.
