Indonesia to hire over 8,000 teachers and staff for People's Schools program

Indonesia’s Ministry of Social Affairs announced a large recruitment drive to staff the People’s Schools (Sekolah Rakyat) initiative. The plan calls for more than 3,000 teachers and 5,000 education support staff, aiming to serve over 32,000 new students as the program expands to 93 permanent school sites slated for completion by June 2026. The recruitment is coordinated with the Ministry of Public Works and the Ministry of Communication and Digital to equip the new buildings with high‑speed internet and digital learning infrastructure from day one.

In Kupang, East Nusa Tenggara, the Minister of Social Affairs Saifullah Yusuf highlighted the positive development of students after nine months of participation in the program. He noted improved confidence and optimism among pupils, supported by nutritious meals, technology tools, libraries and laboratories. The Central Statistics Agency praised the progress of children from the lowest income brackets, attributing the success to targeted data‑driven enrollment and comprehensive support services.
