Indonesia to introduce B50 biodiesel blend in July 2026

President Prabowo Subianto announced that Indonesia will launch a mandatory B50 biodiesel blend on July 1 2026, mixing 50 % palm‑oil biodiesel with diesel. The policy is intended to achieve fuel and energy self‑sufficiency and end imports of conventional diesel. Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia said trials on heavy equipment, ships, trains and agricultural machinery have been successful and the rollout is on schedule.

The government estimates the B50 program could save up to Rp157.28 trillion in foreign‑exchange this year. Energy Ministry spokesperson Dwi Anggia highlighted that previous steps—B30, B35 and B40—already reduced import needs and saved Rp64.25 trillion, Rp120.54 trillion and Rp133.3 trillion respectively. Technical road tests covering vehicles of all weight classes have shown no significant issues. The move is framed as a response to volatile oil markets and regional shipping‑lane tensions, aiming to strengthen national energy security.
