Indonesia to issue online transportation protection regulation by September 2026

The Indonesian government and the House of Representatives (DPR) are finalizing a Presidential Regulation (Perpres) aimed at protecting online transportation workers. The regulation is expected to be issued by September 2026 and seeks to provide legal certainty and improve the welfare of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) and courier partners.

The new framework will clarify the division of authority among three main ministries: the Ministry of Transportation will oversee passenger transport tariffs and operations; the Ministry of Communication and Digital will manage delivery services for goods and food; and the Ministry of SMEs will support the welfare of online transportation workers.

In response to the upcoming tariff regulations for delivery services, the KAJOL Indonesia community has urged the government to consider the total daily income of drivers rather than just the rate per order. KAJOL Chairman Firmansyah noted that while drivers seek better earnings, excessively high tariffs could reduce customer demand, ultimately lowering total daily take-home pay. He emphasized that regulations must account for fluctuating field conditions and the symbiotic relationship between drivers and application providers.
