Indonesia to Open 93 People’s Schools by July 2026

The Indonesian government aims to have all 93 phase‑II "Sekolah Rakyat" (People’s School) projects operational for the new academic year starting July 2026. Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo said the construction targets completion by June 2026, with a task force accelerating work through three‑shift schedules, innovative building methods and cross‑sector coordination. By May 2026, physical progress reached about 63% and financial progress about 42%, while the projects have employed roughly 71,579 workers.

Social Minister Saifullah Yusuf (Gus Ipul) announced that more than 3,000 teachers, 5,000 educational staff and over 32,000 students will be recruited for the new schools. Five of the sites face red‑zone challenges related to cash‑flow and staffing, but the government says it will continue to push for rapid completion and staffing of the permanent schools.
