Indonesia to transfer PPPK teacher status to central government

The Indonesian government and DPR RI have finalized a policy to transfer the employment status of PPPK teachers to central government employees. Under this agreement, part-time PPPK teachers will be transitioned to full-time status starting in 2027. Additionally, full-time PPPK teachers will be granted the opportunity to participate in Civil Servant (PNS) selection processes in early 2027.

Minister of Finance Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa stated that the government has simulated the budget requirements and assured that this transition will not jeopardize national fiscal sustainability. The 2027 budget deficit target is expected to remain at 2.40 percent of GDP.

To support this transition, the Ministry of Home Affairs has requested regional heads to cease recruiting new staff to ensure personnel needs align with the agreed government stages. Meanwhile, Commission X of the DPR has called for strengthened regional transfer funds (TKD) for the education sector to ensure local governments can meet teacher salary obligations and infrastructure needs.
