DPR leadership pledges to pass Asset Forfeiture Bill by December 15
DPR leadership has committed to passing the Asset Forfeiture Bill by December 15, 2026. This commitment was made following protests by the Aliansi Masyarakat Pati Bersatu (AMPB) at the DPR building in Jakarta. During an audience with AMPB representatives, Deputy Speaker Sufmi Dasco Ahmad stated that he and other leaders are prepared to resign if the legislation is not finalized by the target date.
AMPB protesters have also demanded the implementation of the death penalty for corruptors. The group has threatened to establish a permanent post and hold further demonstrations if the deadline is missed. Amidst the unrest, reports emerged of a security incident in Pati, where the home of an AMPB associate was damaged by what appeared to be pellets.
Speaker Puan Maharani affirmed that the DPR remains open to public input through official channels to ensure the bill is robust. The legislation is viewed by officials as a critical tool for recovering state assets and preventing budget leakages to fund poverty alleviation programs.
